Angry customers - what can we do with them

Friday, June 9th, 2006

"You are the worst company I have bought from!" - writes the client. Oops, bossss! What should I write back?
It is very hard to select words when some of your customers is angry and complains about your company.

All is well when it ends well. And until it ends be sure not to panic; no matter how bad it looks. Your customers only want you to do your best when they complain. They can see things that you might miss and every complaint will give you insight on how to improve your business. Here are some tips of handling with complains:
  • Be empathetic and come them down - which means that you should acknowledge the person’s feelings (you don’t have to agree with them to do that). In the NLP practices this is called "to build rapport". For example, you can say: "I understand how upsetting that might be…"
  • Do not defend yourself - you will surely want to say something to defend yourself - don’t! Getting defensive will never help. The issue is not about who is right, it is about helping a disappointed customer and keeping their repeated purchases.
  • Take responsibility - no matter whether you are guilty for the complaint or not, you still represent your company. Therefore, you should take the "blame". By doing that, you emphasize the company’s trustworthiness and reliability. If you can’t handle the issue alone, be sure to hand the customer off in a classy manner.
  • Make commitments - only that way the customer is assured that something will be done in a precise time interval. You have to state your actions clearly, for example: "Our team will come to your place tomorrow at 15:00".
  • Make some offer before they ask for refund - that’s what most of your customers say in cases of dissatisfaction: "We want our money back". But that is the least you want, because it leaves your customer disappointed in your company. You will have to be cleverer and offer them something of a value for their trouble and time before they ask a refund.
  • Do more - every company can do things the regular way. We are sure you can come up with something more. After all, the complaining customer only wants you to be better, and you can use this interaction to prove that you can.
  • Walk the talk - make sure to do what you have promised.
  • Follow up - check back with them after some period. Phone them up or e-mail them and ask if they need anything else and if the arrangement you made works properly. That way you show them that you care and can also trigger word-of-mouth referrals.

At the end, let’s use the statistics as a guide: it shows that about seven out of ten complaining guests will do business with you again if you resolve the complaint in their favor.

Benefits of Submitting to a Directory Website

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

Submitting to web directories is to broaden your horizons.

There are many benefits:

•Most directories attract considerable traffic. Surfers access specific categories of interest to them and open websites within the category. By default, the website submitted by you will get “click through traffic.”

•Spiders released by search engines will add your site to search engine indexes. And, links from directory pages are automatically indexed.

•Higher rankings on the search engine page for key words optimizing the website. Ensure that the anchor text linking the directory to your website has a phrase that identifies or states clearly the functions offered by your website. This will provide: higher click through ratings; better rankings in search engines; a greater number of links enabled by variations in key phrases.

•Increased number of links to your web page. Surfers will find links to your website, as being in a directory means receiving many back links. The more the number of links the higher a search engine ranking and the greater the number of viewers or users or clients.

•Enhanced credibility. Being a part of a quality directory means that you website has been through stringent vetting standards and reviews. Internet surfers are aware that only websites of high standards are listed in a directory. Websites listed in directories with credibility means these are the sites of choice and, they are guaranteed excellent content as well as services.

•A niche directory that is specific to your business will direct potential customers quickly and efficiently. The cost of submission can be quickly recovered.

•Provide simple links with a high PR category pages and few or minimal outgoing links. This ensures maximized popularity links to your site, boosting rankings.

Be prudent in your choices:

•Limit the number of directory submissions.

•Submit to all established free niche directories and just a few selected paid submission directories.

•Make use of sponsored links to jump start traffic to your site.

•Find out whether the directory uses keywords or uses an editorial approach using editorial ratings.

•Discover what sponsored listings signify. These are always listed first.

•Figure out whether the directory has alphabetical ordering or a first come basis.

•After inclusion in directories of standing, get listings in search engines with site rankings.

Do your homework, make wise choices. Experts recommend selecting niche sites as well as giants like Yahoo and DMOZ. Study thoroughly the comprehensive guidelines provided by directories. Think out and plan your marketing strategy and targets. Random submissions must never be made. You must achieve a ROI, return of investment.

7 Golden Rules to Financial Prosperity

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

I believe that most people haven’t got enough money for everything they wish to have - the more you have the bigger your plans, and you have a feeling that you have less and less money.

Whether you have lots of money or just so-so, you need to economize and take proper care of your money ie your income, expenditures, savings and investments.

Below I give you 7 Golden Rules to a Financial Prosperity:

1) Always have several streams of income: never rely on one income from one source only.

2) As soon as you start to earn, start to put aside a certain amount to create an automatic money source: I remember I have always had my own portfolio since I was a child, and can tell you that I needed it several times. Even if you have property, you may find yourself in a situation when you need fast cash. In such a situation, you will not sell your property, but you can sell part or even the whole of your portfolio.

You don’t need to start your portfolio with thousands of dollars, you can develop it.

You only need to set a rule that you won’t touch it when you don’t need it, and keep it for vital urgencies. To buy a better car or a bigger house is not an urgency.

3) Always take care of your money personally: it’s not necessary to do everything personally as soon as you can afford it but never allow any other person to have a right to handle your money without your knowing, or your express approval. If you think that you don’t have time to supervise this or that it’s not important, you will have to find it later for much more unpleasant things when you lose your money.

Many of you will ‘hate’ me for what I’m going to say now and I will receive lots of disapproving messages but I have to say it: don’t even allow your spouse to do this - love and money is not the right association, and I know what I am talking about. Keep these apart.

Don’t supervise your investments and expenditures only - Always strictly collect your money. Never allow people to owe you - again: with no regard to how much money you have, always demand every dollar you earn to be paid to you.

4) Strictly distinguish between expenditures and investments: it’s very easy to put everything as cost or overhead: don’t do this. Apply an easy rule: expenditure or cost is money thrown out of the window - you can’t expect any return money on it, while investment is desirable (of course, not every investment is desirable): this should bring you more money, more property able to make you more money - the only questions you should carefully consider are whether you can/should afford such an investment at the moment, how much you’re going to get back, how fast and whether it is acceptable.

5) Keep your expenditures at the minimum with no regard to how much money you have: expenditures are killing for everyone. It’s useless to tell you stories about big fortunes lost by unwise costs. I’m sure you know many yourself from your neighbourhood.

6) Avoid loans, don’t borrow if you don’t know for sure you can repay. Never purchase anything on future incomes or promises.

Just a little example: if I have a notice that a payment is on its way to my account and I need the money today for some reason (however, I can’t see any reason like that :-) - never mind), I can borrow. But, if I think I will sell 1,000 books next week, I mustn’t borrow.

7) You must always earn more than you spend. In case you don’t earn more than you spend, then you must spend less. In other words, you must always be in green.

If you think that you must swap your car every six months even if you should borrow, then it may easily happen that you won’t drive anything in a very short time.

I don’t want to waste hours of your precious time by long essays on savings and wise advice. Just adopt one principle and whenever you want to do something with your money (- whether it’s thousands or millions or just a couple of bucks), just think about it: take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves.

8 Ways to speed up airport security

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

Here are a few insights:

1.Never pack any banned items in your carry on luggage. Ensure that the luggage is of the right size and weight as outlined by airline regulations.

2.Before you walk through the metal detector empty your pockets and place all items like coins, jewelry, hair clips, tie clips, watches, belts and buckles into the outer pocket for your carry on luggage so that it moves through the x-ray machine and does not cause a din when you walk through.

3.Wear sensible shoes with low heels, slip on shoes are preferable. If you are asked to remove the shoes do so with grace try avoid shoes which have a metal heel arch.

4.Be prepared to switch on your mobile, i-pod, laptop, PDA and so on if asked. Keep them all together. Be sure to switch all electronics off before take off and during landing.

5.As soon as you enter the security area place the lap top and other carry ons on the conveyor belt for checking by x-ray. Ensure that all baggage including your purse has the appropriate tags.

6.Keep a valid photo ID ready along with the boarding pass. If you like you can have a travel wallet with an ID window on one side and a pocket for the boarding pass and luggage stubs on the other.

7.Never carry any banned items. Buy what you need at your destination.

8.Don’t lock your checked bags. Often, if the x-ray shows anything odd you may need to open the bag for inspection. Once it is through security you may lock the luggage.

If you keep updated on laws of the land or check with your travel agent or airline a few days before departure you will be quite prepared and will few problems. In case you are nervous about leaving your car in the lot until you return consider going to the airport by cab. Alternately ask a friend to drop you off. If you are being dropped then you can drive right up to the terminal and save yourself a long walk carrying your luggage. If you dress neatly, walk with self confidence, answer questions by security staff or airline employees with confidence and without hesitation there should really be no problem whatsoever. As a precaution try not to strike up any friendships with men or women you don’t know. If you need to while away any time buy a book or magazine or window shop at the airport. Always eat a light meal before leaving for the airport, wear comfortable clothes and carry with you a jacket or coat in case it gets cold. Give comfort priority over style.

If you are sensible and practical your flight will be enjoyable and passage through airports without problems.

9 Reasons To Do Joint Venture Deals On eBay

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

One way to avoid this swamp, though, is to do a Joint Venture with established eBay sellers. This allows a JV partner to build her own mailing list and sell products off eBay.

There are multiple advantages to this way of doing business on eBay:

1. The biggest uncertainty for would-be eBay sellers is what products to sell. Sometimes vendors risk large sums of money on untried products, only to lose their investment, become sour and give up. With a Joint Venture there is no risk except for a few hours of time.

2. Since there are no auctions listed on eBay, no one can steal copy or pictures from JV sellers - because there is nothing to copy. In effect, we become invisible - no one even knows we exist and this hidden aspect has many advantages.

3. eBay JVs are usually done with a digital product that can be instantly downloaded. This is great for any entrepreneur because inexpensive autoresponders mean that her entire business is handled via autopilot. Contrast this with the usual way of doing business on eBay which involves mailing dozens, hundreds or even thousands of boxes.

4. eBay and Paypal have lots of rules. It’s easy to break some unwittingly, and even the most honest seller does so from time to time. A JV merchant isn’t answerable to eBay, however, but only to her customers.

5. A JV seller never directly lists on eBay, thus avoiding eBay and Paypal fees.

6. Successful Powersellers have large numbers of customers and there are lots of administrative details involved. Implementing a sales system can cost time and money because without attention to detail packages won’t be mailed in a timely fashion, payments won’t be accurate, items will be sent to the wrong buyers, and so on. A JV partner eliminates all of that because all transactions can be funneled through a hands-off system.

7. eBay selling lives or dies through the ‘feedback’ system. Negative feedback can kill sales instantly and lack of feedback causes buyers to hesitite and choose other sellers. Feedback is totally irrelevant to a Joint Venture seller because she is using the reputation of carefully chosen other sellers. She knows in advance that their feedback is high quality or she doesn’t do deals with them.

8. Inexperienced sellers sometimes drag wiser merchants into price wars. In a panic over sales, they foolishly slash prices, beginning a chain reaction that results in bare bones bids that allow no one to make any money. A Joint Venture seller floats serenely above such hiccups in the marketplace.

9. Best of all, a JV seller doesn’t settle for a one time sale. She concentrates her efforts on a mailing list of happy customers that she can sell to again and again and again. In this way, not only is she ensuring repeate profits, but she gets paid for creating this list, rather than having to pay someone else for names.

With its 147,000,000 registered users, eBay is the best source of targeted, Net-savvy buyers on the web. By putting together Joint Venture deals with established sellers, anyone can add large numbers of qualified buyers to their database efficiently and inexpensively.

Abundance

Friday, May 12th, 2006

We were sitting there talking over a few beers, and he told me of a job that he was doing that week. He was a drywall and paint tradesman, and was working somewhere in Washington or Oregon, I forget exactly where. In this particular job, he was working in a Federal Reserve building, and their contract was to patch up some walls, and do some remodelling. Security was very tight, and they were searched from head to toe every time that they went into the building and went out. Its easy to see why. This building housed MOUNTAINS of cash. There was so much cash there, that the bank employees had to use hand trucks and forklifts to physically move pallet after pallet of cash, into and out of armoured cars and storage racks.

He recalls that one day as he was having lunch, sitting on a pallet of one hundred dollar bills, how hard he had been working all of that morning. He looked down at the pallet he was sitting on, and thought “Here I am, sitting on a PALLET of 100 dollar bills, and I work hard all day for two little slips of paper that are in this pallet.”

The economy of the United States and Canada is absolutely phenomenal. There are trillions of dollars, constantly cycling from individual to individual, business to business. The work necessary just to keep the cash moving is astounding, as it is in the Federal Reserve bank that my friend was working in. Just the physical aspect of moving mountains and mountains of cash, day after day, is mind-boggling.

I have dug ditches in my life, and the work gets very boring and mindless, very quickly. Imagine working with cash day in and day out, I’m sure that after a few days you will see cash not as a blessing, but another job that can never be finished.

This brings into perspective all of our efforts, the value of our efforts, and the sheer magnitude of our North American economy. Those who say that they have no money really do have money, it is just being held by someone else at the moment. Your job is to get that money back so that YOU can hold it! Sounds simple? Yes, it really is. It is all about exchanging value for value.

Someone who has no clue as to how to do the plumbing repairs in their house suddenly sees the value of a plumber’s experience and training, and quickly parts with two 100-dollar bills in exchange for having a house free of leaks. Someone who does not have a home and not much money, sees the value of your apartment building, and rents an apartment from you for $500 a month. People will not part with their money if they don’t see the value of what they are getting in return. Examine your product or service. Are you giving your customers value for their money? Do they immediately see the value that you are giving them? Is your Unique Selling Proposition so apparent, so over the top, that your customer feels like a fool if he doesn’t take your offer? If it does not, you have some work to do to make your offer completely irresistible.

Do not think for a moment that people don’t have money, or that they won’t buy from you. All you need to provide is value.

There is cash out there, mountains of it. Are you getting your share of it?

Autoresponders Equal Automatic Internet Marketing Success

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

What if you could send out all the information that your potential customers have requested without checking your email or answering a phone? While this
may seem impossible, it is becoming more and more popular among the most successful Internet marketing gurus. This is all due to what is called an autoresponder.

An autoresponder is an automatic method of responding to emails sent by existing or potential customers and is a must for any Internet business. Time is money and
answering emails personally take a lot of valuable time for both you and the customer. Not only do autoresponders
allow you to spend time elsewhere in your business, but it gives the customer access to the information almost immediately.

Since there are so many different uses for autoresponders, they can be of value to virtually any type of business. Some choose to use the autoresponders to answer frequently asked questions about a product or service. Others use them to provide information about pricing or product
information. Autoresponders are also a nice way to welcome new members to a website or group as well as thank them after a visit.

One might ask what would be the advantage of using autoresponders as opposed to simply listing the information on the site. An important feature of autoresponders is that they send you an email notification each time a response is requested. This
allows you to track the success of your promotions as well as have the email addresses of potential customers at your fingertips so that you can easily
send out updated and new information to them.

A good autoresponder also allow you to perform unlimited followups with your prospects or customers. It is of the utmost importance to choose an effective
autoresponder. An autoresponder should be as personal as possible and send out follow-ups to potential customers since it has been proven that persistence pays off. It
could take up to seven contacts before a final sale is conducted.

Generally speaking an advertisement should be short and to the point. However, in this case, the customer has asked to see this specific information and therefore an effective autoresponder should allow you to place as much text on the page as you desire. The autoresponder that you choose should provide automatic updates to
customers free of charge.

The autoresponder is one Internet marketing tool that will not cost you an arm and a leg. You can get free autoresponders online from several sources.

The automatic responses will be a welcome addition to your marketing strategy and will help to automatically increase traffic to your site all while you do nothing.

Be sure that the autoresponder you choose includes all the extras that will send you site to the top and your profits through the roof.

The are many advantages to starting your own home based business. You can become independent or just earn some extra supplemental income. You home busines will create new tax deductions which you can take advantage of thereby reducing your taxable income. Your own business can also create a sense of purpose and accomplishment for having created something of your own.

It really is fairly easy to get started and there are an endless number of resources out there to guide you through the process.

1. Decide what type of business interests you. This is the most difficult part of the process as you do not want to jump into anything too quickly. Consider your interests and what things you are good at. You may decide on a service that you can provide which people will pay for. This might be lawn moving, photography, or house cleaning. This will allow you to colect sales tax on merchandise sold.

Becoming an Internet Entrepreneur - Tips and Tricks!!!

Monday, April 17th, 2006

1) First of all, choose a domain name that is somehow related to the business you are in. For example, if you are looking for a domain name for your pillow business, you might want to try using a name like www.SquarePillows.com or www.PillowSleep.com. It is important to use a “real” domain name. Your visitors will not take your business seriously if you use a free domain name like www.tripod.com/squarepillows , or www.angelfire.com/pillowsleep . A lot of the good domain names are already spoken for, but if you are patient enough, you will search and find one that is still available. If you think that you will need more than one domain name, get that one now too, as thousands of names are taken up each day. Do a search under “Google” using “cheap domain names” as your search words. You will find some very reasonably priced domain registrars. The cheapest one that I have found so far is at www.GoDaddy.com. They are a full service operation offering web hosting and cheap, cheap, cheap domain registration.

2) You will need a hosting service for your domain name. The hosting service allows your domain name and all of its content to be viewed on the internet. This is easy to handle. You have basically two choices here. You can pay for the hosting service or get it for free. If money is not really a problem for you, then you may want to choose the paid version. Just do a search using “Google” with “web hosting” as your search words, and take your pick from the thousands of sites. You will find that the price charged varies wildly depending the services required. Now if you want to explore the free version…. There are a lot of free hosting companies on the internet. The problem with these free hosting companies is that they all require some sort of pop-up banner, static header or footer banner, or both, to be placed on each and every web page. These banners can contain all kinds of advertising, and some, or all of it, may not be welcome to the viewers on your web site. The free hosting option is certainly not the best one to explore. To save you time, I would recommend www.GoDaddy.com again for the most economical hosting of your web site.

3) Once you have your domain name and hosting service taken care of, you will probably need a way of uploading your web content to your site. Sometimes your web hosting service provider includes a site manager that allows this function. If not, then you might want to look into downloading some FTP software such as WS_FTP for example at www.ipswitch.com. While you are downloading software, you may also want to add WINZIP – located at www.WinZip.com to your download list. WINZIP allows you to “unzip” your “PillowSleep” file for example. A file is initially “zipped” to compress it for ease of downloading. To use this download zip file, you will have to “unzip” it first.

4) Your “PillowSleep” site probably needs a little more customizing. Look at other pillow sites on the internet for comparison and see what could be improved visually on your site. Does it need any flashy graphics? There are many free graphics available on the internet - just do a search with google. Once you are happy with the way your web site looks, it’s now time to focus on that fun part – html coding. Unless you are very comfortable using “html” coding, don’t touch the “html” coding on the “PillowSleep” pages at all. If you are comfortable using “hml”, then you could add things like Title, Meta Keywords, Meta Descriptions, etc., which would allow the search engines to find your web site much easier. The use of “keyword phrases” is much more useful than just using “keywords”, because it makes your web site more search specific. Go ahead and add a “Pillow” links page too. Another tip is always keep a hard copy of your web pages somewhere, either on a floppy, cd, or dvd. There are few things worse than customizing a web site and if something bad happens to your computer or hard drive, losing the web content forever.

5) At this point, you probably already have uploaded your web site and have it online. Now you need to “drive” visitors to your site. One popular way of bringing traffic to your site is to use a free link exchange or free link trading service. For the free link exchange service, you just sign up and put a little bit of code on your “Pillow” web site (this allows other Pillow web site banners to be viewed on your site and vice versa). The free link trading service is very simple also. You simply add another pillow’s link to your links page and vice versa. This trading of links increases your sites popularity greatly with the search engines. One of the most important things you can do to gain traffic is to get listed with the major search engines. Go to each search engine, or use a free service like www.AddMe.com and add your web site there. There is also what is called “pay-per-click” search engines where you actually pay for traffic sent to your web site. Other search engines require payment in order to get listed with them at all. “Yahoo” is one of these “pay” search engines.

6) Please be advised that is illegal to “Spam” on the internet or via e-mail. Spamming is sending unwanted e-mails or putting internet advertising material, or internet material in general where it should not be. That being said, another method of marketing and promoting your site is to add your site to casino and gambling message boards and free for all links pages. Please check to see if it is ok to post your info there first, and in which category, and anywhere else before posting there. If you “Spam”, you risk losing your internet service provider, and possibly your web host with all of your web content. It’s just not worth the trouble.

7) Another way of promoting your site is to add your web site address to your business cards, and/or make up flyers and posters. Don’t forget to get permission before you post anything anywhere. If you have other web sites, add a banner and/or link to your “Pillow” site there. Make a t-shirt with your “Pillow” graphic and web address on it (on both sides of the t-shirt) for yourself to wear. If you want, add your “Pillow” graphic logo and web address to different products like baseball caps and coffee mugs, and give them away as promotional items. Buy an ad on a bus stop, or a small classified ad in the local paper, or radio ad, etc. How about getting two of those “12 inch x 12 inch” sticky, bendable, removable, flat, “magnet ads” made up at your local printing store to put on the sides of your vehicle’s doors. When you drive around the city, every body will see your web site ad and when you get to your destination, simply take the sign off until you leave again. How about putting one of your “Pillow” flyers or small posters on the inside of your vehicle’s rear side glass areas. Just make sure it doesn’t obscure your vision. The idea is to use your creativity here.

8) I hope these pointers are of good use to you. Good luck with your online web business!!!

Boost Traffic to Your Website

Saturday, April 8th, 2006

One of the aims of using directories is to boost traffic. To achieve this, one must choose to be featured in large, organized directories like Yahoo, DMOZ, and LookSmart. These will drive highly targeted traffic to you site (subject specific), increase significantly the link popularity, and Google PageRank.

To maximize exposure:

• Find a category that is most relevant to your website. The category and subcategories must totally fit the subject of your site and its purpose. For example, if your site is health related business the site must feature under health and not business. Only then, will surfers seeking health related websites access yours. Do a keyword search that is relevant to your site on the directory. The directory will throw up categories relevant to the key words. Choose one which is suited in all aspects.

•Coin a title and description that will boost traffic not reduce it. The title must be “dead on.” It should include the most important key word and if possible begin with a letter towards the beginning of the alphabet. And, the 15-25 word description should succinctly summarize the purpose or functions of your site. While being descriptive and informative, try and weave in as many keywords pertaining to your site as possible.

•Purchase keywords from one of the pay-per-click search engines or directories.

•Make the website search engine friendly.

•Pay attention to text and image content. Heavy images reduce search engine visibility.

•Use back links on appropriate directories and trade or business listings. Check out the back links used by competitors.

•Add new content regularly. This encourages visitors and search engine spiders to return. Make sure the content is keyword rich.

•Start and maintain a web log or blog. This can become an active way to boost traffic while simultaneously disseminating information.

•Market your website by printing its address on business cards, paper bags, packaging and so on. Distribute an e-zine or updates as newsletters regularly to customers and business associates.

•Consider paying search engines for improved listings and fast appraisal of your site.

•Direct content towards search engines by adopting cloaking technology.

•Run advertisements on related web sites and mailing lists.

•Adopt a reciprocal link program.

Maximize traffic by monitoring your traffic regularly. Analyze visitor movements and frequencies. Find out what is effective and what is redundant. Use cookies efficiently. Understand technology and use it to the maximum. Keep updated on new innovations and developments. Write down a workable website marketing strategy.

There are simple steps to victory: be different, make sure your website is refreshing and delivers what it promises; create a network of supporters; be honest in your business ventures; deliver on time at affordable costs; be a learner all your life, constantly innovate your website to keep stride with changing times; carve out an exclusive niche and diversify in directions that are relevant to your business module.

Create a daunting presence.
